Let it Snow Baby... Let it Reindeer

I don't care what people say. I like the snow, and I usually even like the rain. This past week has ushered in the beginning of snow season here in New York, and I love it, for so many reasons. Locals and advanced snow-aficionados are very quick to shoot down my feelings of happiness and excitement when it snows. They blame my gaiety on my New York naivety and then continue to explain how miserable I will be when I step outside and to give it a few days. Just to let everyone know - the days have passed and I am still enjoying it.

Believe me when I say that I have done my fair share of walking since my arrival to this city. Just a couple of days ago I took my favorite walk around New York since I have been here. We went through Central Park, built a Snowman, got our feet all mushy outside of FAO Schwartz, saw some sparkly holiday decorations on Fifth Avenue, and saw two huge Christmas trees at Rockefeller Center and Bryant Park (I liked the Bryant Park one more). And guess what the weather was like? It was Snowing the entire time!

I think that snow, and rain as well, deserve another chance. They not only give us opportunities to do things that people do not often think of doing or have the opportunity to do, but they also encourage us to appreciate simple things we can find ourselves doing on any other day of the week. How often do you get to build a Snowman in Central Park and watch people trying to find a slope steep enough to use their snowboard in New York City? And if you don't feel like going out, the rainy day gives you the perfect excuse to stay inside in PJs all day reading a good book and drinking the hot beverage of your choice. And say you are brave enough to wander outside, you get to dress up and accessorize like crazy! Scarves, hats, boots and mittens!

So let's try not to have such negative attitudes about the weather - after all, winter has just started and it is here to stay until at least March. And if everybody else decides to be grumpy and talk badly about the snow and the cold, I am going to do my best to advocate equality for the winter weather that most people become disgruntled over. I like the rain and the snow. Just saying.
